Today started with some information about a prehistoric shark: The Megalodon! We even had a Megalodon tooth to look at and compare with a real shark tooth (thank you Owen) and our own! We then looked at the size of their jaw and talked about the math scientist had to do to figure out the size of this great shark! We learned what the word prehistoric means: they said, I hear the word history and I"ve heard that word before when talking about dinosaurs so they figured it out!
We also did more shark research today-looking up different species of shark. We played Sharks and Minnows and measured different lengths of sharks with a tape measurer and compared how many kids long that shark would be! In math, we became real "OCEARCH" shark researchers and taggers! They pretended to be on a ship and tag sharks. They named it, kept track of data: date tagged, where it was tagged, measured it and even took blood! :) We also had a group measuring another group of sharks and ocean animals. And we have a Great White shark taped down on the floor. They measured with cubes and a tape measurer-and KIDS! ;0) Lots of fun going on in here! Thank you so much for dressing them up and for all the support and help in making this a successful week!
