This week we were going to add more reading strategies to our list but as I was reading and working with your children, I thought it would be best to keep working on getting our mouth ready and looking to see if it was right. We worked on sounding out parts of words we knew (words within words, blends, diagraphs or things we know say a specific sound), rather than sounding each and every letter out. This is a great strategy to work on at home when you are reading with your children. We read some great books to help us (Mo Willems-because they are fun and the kids can read most of the words, Frog and Toad and Pete the Cat Saves Christmas (yes it's a little early but he's great!). Keep practicing those reading strategies at home and the nightly reading! I can see so much improvement in their reading already! I have noticed a change in their attitudes, stamina and a real excitement for it! Next week, I will use the minutes from your child's reading log to log it into the Pizza Hut Book It Program. If they reach their goal, they'll get a coupon for a personal pan pizza! I am sending one coupon home on Friday for their October reading!! If you can believe it, they read 7,000 min in here during the month!!!!!! I am sooo proud of them! Make sure to let your child know how proud of them you are too! Thanks for all your continued help and support with reading at home!
