We are starting to work on writing stories about ourselves. At t his age, we are consumed with what we do, who we play with, what we saw etc. So there are LOTS of great ideas for writing stores about ourselves! We talked about what a personal narrative means (a story about us) and using small moments in our lives to write them! We joked about how getting up and going to school is TOO small of a moment. And no offense, not that interesting. We also talked about how we aren't quite ready to write longer stories like a vacation. When we write, we talk about our steps: 1. Think 2. Plan and 3. Write We brainstormed lots of ideas that we could write about. From friends, to lost teeth, games we play etc. Then we talked about how to plan out our writing. We use our hands to help us count each part of the story: First, Next, then and last. I also have given them time to just write in their journals. They could write ideas, pictures or tell about a certain event. They LOVED it and worked very hard. They shared out and I think that helped give them ownership of their writing and being able to read it :) We are off to a great start! I've read some great books to help give them ideas too: How to Babysit a Grandpa, Every Friday, Big Sister, Little Sister, The Snowy Day and The Night of the Veggie Monster!
