Today we started talking about doubles and how they are going to help our fact fluency from 1-20. They played an independent game called "Double Trouble". We also played a game called "Fill Ten" where they worked on missing addends and facts for 10. They loved playing although my Type A personality didn't like the "math mess" it created :) (but it was worth it).

Today we started our study in writing workshop about the Pilgrims journey on the Mayflower. They all got real passenger names from the Mayflower! They got a "quill" and a hat or bonnet as well as the journal they will be recording their thoughts in as they travel! Tomorrow is Day 1: Leaving home. Stay tuned!
Today we worked on our fact fluency within 10 and unknown addends. We used our part, part, whole tool along with cubes, number lines, pictures and understanding of our basic facts! They did an AWESOME JOB!! I said I would brag about it on the blog :) So make sure you take a peek at their work tonight!
Today we worked on ways to make 10, add and subtract within 20 and working our fluency for facts 0-10. They used fact cards to "play" Fact Card Jumps and Who Has More. They worked on counting on, working with numbers from 0-20 and writing number sentences! Plus they also had fun!!
Today we continued to talk about ways to make 10. I gave them this problem: Rita is making 10 lemon and cherry cupcakes. They use their 10's frame as their cupcake pan. They came up all the different ways to make 10.
We are going to be working on ways to make 10. Today we read Apples on Top by Dr. Seuss . Then they came up with 4 ways to make 10. They had to know the parts and write a number sentence. I used this information as a formative assessment. We then took our thinking and made this chart with number sentences to hang up in the room.
So as you know we talked about that our goal was to write an ending to our story and not write The End. Of course I had 3 kids show me books that have "the end" :) Guess that show s me ha ha!
