Today we put together our Wampanoag vocabulary booklet. We are going to use it on Friday and talk about their language and meaning behind their words and ceremonies!

Today we talked about what we are thankful for. They came up with really good things! We had a great discussion! Just wanted to share their thinking!
Today they made their own retelling sticks! They have them in a bag in their book bag to help prompt them into retelling the stories they are reading at home! They were so excited, they used them during their reading today at school!!!
This is a tool you can use with them or they can use independently! Today we continued our work with doubles. We started our warm up with a doubles memory game. We followed that with a "Fill the Chart" activity where they have to pull a number card and double it. They then write the answer in the chart (Kind of like a blah 100's chart)!
This week we have been talking about how important it is to remember what we read (comprehension). We talked about how hard it is for first graders, they have a lot of work to do! They have to not only decode words to read accurately, but they also have to read fluently AND remember what they read!
We are using sticks to help us retell familiar stories (books we've read more than once) to help them practice good retellings. Here is a picture of a reading group using them! |
