This week I introduced a new math game called Addition Bump. There are 2 versions: adding up 2 or 3 dice.
They play by adding up 3 dice (or 2) and then cover the total with their game piece. Their partner does the same. If their opponent gets the same answer they can "bump" the other player off their spot. If they get that answer twice (and their game piece is still on the answer) they can lock that spot. The goal of the game is to fill the board with the most of their color game piece! They have loved it so far! They can use the dot points on the dice to help them add, or their name tag. Plus it's also fun to see the different strategies they use to add up more than one die; adding up the easiest first, adding double etc. Our share time this week is to see which strategies they used to add up!
I also wanted to show what work/game time looked like. Students are doing various things of their choosing (unless I make an executive decision :) ) Very engaged and happy! :)
Another activity to do during work/game time is Number Trains. They can by themselves or with a group. They will make colored trains based on the number at the top (9 or 10). They will write the number sentence they see on the train. Each train must be a different number sentence!
