Today we did a thinking routine-tied to our 6 habits of thinkers, about our data and graphing assessment. They each had to write down their excitements, worries and needs for the project. Then we looked at what we were thinking and came up with some suggestions! I LOVED this thinking routine as a teacher because it let me inside their brains and "see" their thinking! They LOVED it because it gave them a chance to share their thinking without "feeling bad about it". :)

We have been working on this project for a couple days. We aren't finished yet but I wanted to share their progress.
We collected data for Mrs. Master's the cook (she is going to use it for her meeting at C.O.!) and figured out our favorite foods, sandwiches and vegetables! We then took that data and are working on a way to represent that in a graph! Here is some of their progress! As I mentioned in my email, we are working on collaborating and communicating with one another without argument and tattling. :) We'll get there! Today we worked really hard on our persuasive letters. We practiced and practiced AND PRACTICED! They are working on their conventions and really thinking about word chunks they know to help them write unknown words and be quick with their sight words!
I created sticks to help guide their opinion writing with ideas on who to write to, opening sentence and the word because! I had students using the sticks, using their rough drafts and using their dictionaries to help them! Today they came up with their own questions and recorded data and represented their data in a bar graph!
