We are beginning our non fiction study about Walruses this week! Did you know they can whistle? Today we kicked it off with our "Image of the Week". I was very impressed with their questions! After they finished posting their responses (I Wonder, I observe, I like) we talked about how their thinking has changed. They noticed that they use to like and observe but now they wonder more. They noticed that shift in thinking!
We found the answers to some of our questions today when we read/listened to PebbleGo about Walruses. Some are still unanswered, so we will read and learn more to hunt down those answers! We also did some impromptu math! We learned that walruses live in herds of about 2,000. And that they eat up to 6,000 clams a meal! So I let them try to solve first. Then I reminded them that this is just a larger number, but a repeated addition problem like they are familiar with from their math missions! And we got the answer! (with a little help ;)) They are excited to get this study going!
