![]() We started Topic 8 last week. We are working on describing and writing two digit numbers by place value (tens and ones). We worked on grouping cubes in to tens and leftovers (ones). We will also work on skip counting by 10's to help us add and identify double digit numbers. Towards the end of this week, we will work on adding 2 double digit numbers. It is a pretty difficult concept and we will work on this during our games, review/practice as well as our groups/workmats. For examples: 5 tens (50) and 5 ones (5)=55 4 tens (40) and 15 ones (15)=55 3 tens (30) and 25 ones (25)=55 2 tens (20) and 35 ones (35)=55 1 ten (10) and 45 ones (45)=55 This will take lots of practice and we will also work on this a bit in Topic 9. Remember that many of our math teaching points are K-2 benchmarks and are meant to be revisited in 2nd grade and not mastered. We will do a lot of work with the 100's chart and knowing where numbers are.
