Our background knowledge of writing stories is filled with the basic conventions: parts of a story, beginning, middle and end and learning how to write about small moments in our life with first, next, then last. We will continue to build on these writing strategies and dig deeper in as the year goes on. Because it's almost Halloween, what a perfect time to introduce juicy words or adjectives! We will be reading some great fall and Halloween books that are filled with great describing words! We will create a list of those juicy words to hang in the room and use a tool to help us in our writing! We will also write our own class Halloween book (next week). We are working on telling our stories using details and going beyond the I like, I saw, I did phase of writing, and this will take awhile for it to sink in so no worries if you aren't seeing this in your child's work yet! Like I said at the beginning of the year, they will learn, be reintroduced to various strategies and techniques! Sometimes it just clicks! And it's so cool to see them take those techniques of authors and apply them to their own writing! Next week I'll talk about our stories and grading writing! Stay tuned!
