Next week is a great short week to get start talking about writing workshop norms, materials, resources and other things we need to be successful writer's. We will read some great books to help us, which I will re-read when we talk about what writer's do. This is more nuts and bolts. They will be introduced to their green writing folder. Inside are a few resources they can use to help them throughout the year. They will have: a list of high frequency words, a heart map (with pictures of things close to their heart to help jump start some ideas), the alphabet in lower and upper case. There are a few sheets that will not get introduced yet: what to do when I'm finished and a conventions check list. We aren't quite ready for those, so when we are, they will become another resource for us. They will learn where writing paper is, where they can write (pretty much anywhere), what they can use (crayons, colored pencils, scissors, stapler etc.), how to carry materials (cups/bins), using carpet squares/pillows/animals appropriately when writing....yes...we will practice that :) We will spend four days doing this and if we need to keep practicing the following week, we will make time for that! I know they are excited to start writing and putting down their story ideas! I'm excited to hear them! Books we will read: The Day The Crayons Quit The Pencil The Things I Can Do Everyone Can Learn to Ride a Bicycle
