Today we had a great talk about books (my favorite)! We talked a little about our own reading, what makes us want to keep reading and now put a book down, what makes us interested in reading (types of books). After our discussion about what makes us want to read, we brainstormed a list of the type of books we can read. They came up with an AWESOME list! We used this to springboard into our reading focus for the next few weeks: How to Write a Book Review and/or recommend a book! We will take this step by step to help set them up for successful writing and sharing. They will eventually write their own book review and share it (for a communication grade) to their peers. We will hang them out in the hallway in hopes that both our class and other classes will get some good book recommendations from us! They were very excited and wanted to start today!
I also said that if they had a book that they LOVE and it's at home, to ask mom/dad to see if they could bring it in to help! I also made it pretty clear that we are not teasing or making fun of someone for their book choice/selection (easy readers, books we read/had read to us when we were little etc) are choices some kiddos might make and we are going to respect that!
Today to get us in the mind set, we read Sam and Dave Dig a Hole and then went on Barnes and Noble and wrote a review!! They saw it all go up on the smart board and used their wording!
